Breanna Guo was awarded $10,000 to help her pursue college studies in liberal arts
It’s been 13 years since Breanna Guo graduated from The Goddard School® located in Portland (Bethany), OR, yet the lessons she learned there and the influence of her preschool teachers have inspired her to teach others in her own community and around the world.
To help Breanna, a recent graduate of Lincoln High School, pursue her dreams of studying international relations at Middlebury University, The Goddard School has named her the recipient of the 2020 Anthony A. Martino Scholarship, worth $10,000.
“One of the main goals of The Goddard School is to instill a love of learning and a passion for professional development within all of our students,” said Dennis R. Maple, president and CEO of Goddard Systems, Inc. “The Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship, named for our founder, is one of our favorite ways to highlight students who take these core values to heart as they pass into adulthood. We wish Breanna nothing but the best on her continued path to academic and professional success.”
Now in its 12th year, the Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship has awarded more than $120,000 to high school seniors who graduated from The Goddard School’s preschool or kindergarten programs. The recipients are honored and recognized for their work ethic, their perseverance and their love for their communities.
Breanna’s love of learning started at The Goddard School located in Portland (Bethany), OR. Inspired by her preschool teachers, Breanna has worked to support young people in her community. One of her accomplishments was helping to establish a public speaking program for middle school students throughout the Portland area to help give them a voice in society.
She has also helped children outside the United States. Breanna, who speaks five languages, spent 11 months in Switzerland using games to teach German to asylum-seeking refugees. She recognizes the importance of global engagement, and she wants to educate others on what is happening around the world and keep making a difference.
“I built personal connections with every one of my students because I remember what it feels like to be prioritized by a teacher,” Breanna said in her video application for the scholarship.
This fall, she is beginning her studies in liberal arts at Middlebury University.
The Goddard School looks forward to the opportunity to continue supporting former Goddard students just like Breanna and their exemplary performance and ambitions in the years to come.
